Come and Try
If you would like to try out canoeing why not take part in one of White Rose Canoe Club's "Come and Try" sessions.
We run these at various times during the year as a way of bringing groups of new people into the sport at the same time.
Once COVID lockdown restrictions have been released (currently sometime in July) we will set aside an instructor and 6 canoes for people to come and try canoeing at 6:15 on a Tuesday evening at Roundhay park. These will be bookable (and payable) in advance. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and one of the committee members will get back to you with details of how to book.
There is no age restriction, but you must be able to swim 50 metres or, if disabled, be happy to go underwater. Young people will need the permission of their parents or guardians to attend sessions. We ask that parents stay on site during the session.
For safety reasons, we also ask that you advise the club if you suffer from any medical condition that we should be aware of.
For summer sessions we recommend that you wear thin layers of clothing, preferably man-made fibres as these don't absorb too much water. A thin cagoule on top is ideal. Bring a changes of clothes with you and a towel! If you have an old pair of trainers for your feet, that's great otherwise we may have a pair of water shoes to fit you.
Come and Try sessions cost £7 which includes all safety equipment, use of boats and instruction by British Canoeing Qualified Club members.
Our normal club sessions are on a Tuesday evening at Roundhay Park Lake in Leeds and once we are through lockdown we should be able to welcome beginners wishing to paddle regularly.
Please use the British Canoeing website to book your place on club sessions so that we can make sure we can manage numbers safely.
Normal Roundhay Lake sessions cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.
Pool Sessions are £5 per person.
